Cool Tones vs Warm Tones

Cool Tones vs Warm Tones

Did you know colors have different tones?? You may think of colors like blue, red, and yellow and think that’s the only way to describe those colors, but you’re wrong! Colors clearly range in shades from indigo to peach, but colors can also be described by warm or cool tones.

When you come to get your hair color done professionally, you may notice your stylists asks a lot about what type of “blonde” or “brown” you’re looking for. You may want an ash blonde or a honey blonde. Maybe you’re looking for something more of a dark chocolate or milk chocolate. Looking at photos of hair color that you’re inspired to get, take notice of how warm or cool that color is. What makes colors warm is that they have undertones of yellow, orange or red. This makes them bright and have a glow. Cool colors have undertones of blue and green, making colors appear deeper and easy on the eyes.

So what color do you really want your hair to be? Warm or cool blonde? Warm or cool brown? Warm or cool black?

Beard Maintenance 101

Beard Maintenance 101

For some men, growing a beard is the easy part but when it comes to maintenance some have no idea. Here is a breakdown of what you’ll need and what you need to do to have a clean, groomed beard.

The tools you need for your beard are a beard comb and beard brush. You’ll want to use the brush every day to stimulate blood circulation to the face to promote hair growth and to train the hair to lay down. The comb can be used just like you would with the hair on top of your head, to detangle and distribute products.

The main products you need are beard oil and beard balm. Using the beard oil will help keep the hair and skin moisturized to also promote hair growth. Healthy hair won’t want to grow if the conditions are dry. Massage the oil into the hair and skin and follow it with a good brushing to evenly distribute the oil. Beard balm has the same benefits as a beard oil, but because the balm has a thicker consistency, it’s better used for styling a mustache and controlling stubborn beard hairs. There are several other types of beard products and variations of those products on the market that you can keep an eye out for. But it’s as simple as that to maintain your beard. Thanks to new developments in the barbering industry, there is no excuse to keep beards and mustaches looking sharp and clean!

Benefits of Using a Blow Dryer to Style Short Hair

Benefits of Using a Blow Dryer to Style Short Hair

It’s very common that people believe all they need is hair products to achieve the style they want when it comes to short hairstyles. With that notion, people tend to use an immense amount of product to have control. But all you really need is a blow dryer to compensate for the overuse of product.

Using a blow dryer has more benefits than the only disadvantage which would be dry hair. Only if you have long hair is when we’d suggest to refrain from blow drying as much as possible to maintain long healthy hair. But if you do use it, we’re lucky to have products that are heat protectants to protect the hair from hot tool lovers. Now if you have short hair, you won’t have to worry because of the consistent amount of haircuts you get in order to maintain the hairstyle. The blow dryer has many benefits to your hairstyling routine ranging from adding volume to controlling cowlicks. Another plus to using a blow dryer is adding longevity to your hairstyle. We recommend to make sure the hair is 100% dry before adding product because that will prevent your hair style from falling out. When you take the time to blow dry your hair into the hairstyle you want to wear, you’ll only need to use a small amount of product because the blow dryer did all the work to set your hair.

Styling Beachy Waves

Styling Beachy Waves

Are you having a hard time achieving the beachy wave hairstyle?? Here are some ways that can help give you that effortless look with a curling iron or straightener!

PRODUCTS:

  • Unite: 7Seconds Leave-In Conditioner
  • 7Seconds Blowout Cream
  • Boosta Volumizing Spray
  • Texturiza Texture Spray
  • Expanda Dust

In towel dried hair, apply 7Sec. Leave-In Conditioner and Blowout Cream liberally throughout mids-ends of hair. Then spray Boosta Volumizing Spray at roots-mids. Now blowdry! Make sure your hair is completely dry so your waves won’t fall out. Having a good styling foundation will provide a long lasting hairstyle.

Curling Iron:

Using a 1.5” curling iron will make sure you won’t have the Shirley Temple curls and it also helps to alternate the direction of each curl. This prevents the curl bunching together and become one big wave. Also it’s important to leave the ends of your hair straight, doing so will give it a more “undone” look.

Straightener:

You can achieve the same look for hair below shoulder length or shorter with an average size flat iron. We still suggest to alternate the direction of each curl and because you want to have straight ends, using a straightener helps make sure to keep the ends straight. Positioning the iron vertically and only slightly turning towards either direction as you pull away from the scalp gives you more of a wave than a curl.

Once you’ve finished styling and your hair has cooled, this is when you can start touching your hair! Touching the waves while your hair is still warm will prevent the style from holding. Now flip your head upside down and spray Texturiza all over your hair. This will add texture to your beachy waves. The final touch will be to lightly sprinkle Expanda Dust at your roots and rub through with your fingertips to add volume and separation at your roots. We hope this will make your personal styling much easier!

Bright colored and 90s inspired sunglasses have been making fun debuts at Coachella this year too.

The Kingly Hair Group

The Kingly Hair Group

vf.jpg

As you know, here at All Society we continue our education. We’re extremely excited to host The Kingly Hair Group to sharpen our haircutting skills! This June, our hairstylists and other fellow hairstylists will be learning more technically on how to achieve different haircuts.

The Kingly Hair Group is founded by Mike Varela who was a former educator at the prestigious Sassoon Academy. He believes that “‘disciplined knowledge’ is the key that will help promote a higher standard of quality in ones work”. By teaching the fundamental elements of precision haircutting through detailed lectures, demonstrations and hands-on experience, they hope to accelerate the hairstylist to be more focused and technical with forms of hair design

Precision Haircuts

Precision Haircuts

What is precision haircutting?

When you think of getting a haircut, do you think I just need a trim or something like I want my haircut to be striking? This thought process can differentiate between a haircut and a precision haircut.

With a precision haircut, you typically see sharp lines and great shape. This can dramatically alter your image if you do not regularly get precision haircuts. You may also find that these haircuts grow out better in the way that they maintain their structure as the hair grows. The classic bob hairstyle is an example of a haircut that is cut with precision. It can be worn very short around the ears and cheeks or more towards the neck and above the shoulders.

When your hairstylist takes the time to make sure every hair has a place in the haircut, you’ll notice the difference in how the hair lays or pops up and how the hair moves and falls back into place. So do you want a haircut or a structurally sound haircut?

Matte vs Shiney

Matte vs Shiney

What is the difference between matte products versus shiny products?

It may seem obvious in the words “matte” and “shiny” but many don’t really understand the difference and which type of products would be matte or shiny. So let’s touch base on the major distinctions.

Matte means having a dull or lusterless finish. Products with a matte finish allows the hair to have a more natural look. These type of products are typically pastes, wax and clays and normally have a medium to light hold. The lower levels of hold allow the hair to be touchable and to look more natural, as if there were no product in the hair at all.

Shiny is pretty self explanatory, but it means to have a bright or glossy appearance. These type of products have a more obvious look and can have stronger holds. Shiny products are commonly pomades, creams and gels. Since they also have stronger holds, it will give a sleek image and the hair may not move throughout the day.

What type of finish do you prefer your products to have?

Sulfate Free

Sulfate Free

Why is it important to use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner with colored hair?

I’m sure you’ve heard your hairstylist tell you not to use shampoos and conditioners with sulfates while you have your hair colored right? Well first, let’s go over what sulfates are which will explain why it’s important to use sulfate-free hair products.

Sulfates are found in many shampoos and conditioners. They are a derivative of surfactants which attracts oil and water. This is how dirt and oils are washed away from your hair, but it can also take your hair color with it. After spending the time and money to achieve your hair color dreams, the last thing you want is to wash it down the drain by using shampoos and conditioners with sulfates in it. Now if you use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners, it does not mean it’s going to be less effective at cleaning your hair, you’ll just notice less suds while you wash it. This is why it’s crucial to use sulfate-free products to keep your hair color as long lasting as possible.

ADH Brand

ADH Brand

“Good hair doesn’t come from a jar.” Those are the important words this brand in particular lives by. The founder of this brand is Andrew (@andrewdoeshair), a local hairdresser from Corona, California. He says “The right hairdresser or barber can teach you more about styling your hair than a short paragraph on a jar ever could”. Unlike many other product companies, ADH Brand doesn’t focus on all the magical things its products can do for your hair. It strives to support the hairstylist and barber in helping their clients style their hair after they leave the salon or barbershop.

The products itself are very universal and straight to the point! ADH Brand only has two products so far: ADH Dry and ADH Wet. ADH Dry is a matte finish with a light hold paste and ADH Wet is a pomade with a shiny finish and medium hold. Andrew recommends to apply ADH Dry in wet hair, before blow drying. Then once your hair is styled into place, he then suggests to use ADH Wet for added shine and a little more control. Both products can even be used on women’s hairstyling for soft control and texture!

Fiber Gel by Reuzel

Fiber Gel by Reuzel

reuzel-fiber-gel-front_grande.jpg

Here at All Society, we are huge fans of the product company Reuzel! Their pomades, shampoos, conditioner and tonics are awesome, but we were always curious with what they were going to come up with next. Many of us didn’t see a gel coming!

Early this year, Reuzel came out with a Fiber Gel. They added fibers to this gel to provide thickness, fullness and texture to the hair. Unlike many other gels, this gel will not flake and it’s also alcohol free. For the avid gel user, you’ll get that pliable, firm hold that you’re used to with a low shine.

Going from dark brunette to blonde!

Going from dark brunette to blonde!

The awesome thing about hair is we can change it to any color we desire and most often, many of us want the complete opposite of what our natural color is. Brunettes want to be blonde and blondes want to be brunette. Luckily for blondes, it can be a much easier process going dark. Now those with dark hair have another thing coming for them! Here’s a little rundown of what the process looks like.

In order to achieve blonde hair from having natural or unnatural dark hair, it will take several appointments with your hairstylist. This is because we have to remove all the underlying pigment beneath the dark color. Underlying pigment are those red, brass and yellow tones that no one really wants to see. Unfortunately brunettes have to get passed the red, brass and yellow; whereas blondes only have to get passed the yellow.

If you have dark hair and are thinking of going blonde, it’s important to listen to your hairstylist and have an understanding that it will be a timely project. They will suggest products and I promise, they aren’t just trying to make commission off the products they sell to you. These are products that will help keep the integrity of your hair throughout the process so you both can achieve your blonde dreams while having healthy hair!

At All Society, one product we suggest for you to take home is Olaplex #3. This is a treatment that helps repair the bonds in your hair that can be broken from chemical processes. We also suggest Unite’s 7 Seconds Leave-In Conditioner that is also a heat protectant which you can use for your everyday hair routine.

Giving back to our community!

Giving back to our community!

At All Society, we don’t just care about our clients and great hair. We also care about our community and we strive to give back and to stay connected. But we like to make sure to have fun while doing so. Recently we hosted our first Paint & Sip event and it was an awesome turn out! The proceeds were given to Our Nicholas Foundation for autism awareness and support. ONF is a local foundation founded by the Anselmo family who’s son, Nicholas is diagnosed with autism.

We’ll be hosting our newest event called Ladies Society on April 21st Local vendors in the beauty and wellness industry will be here and our hairstylists will be pampering our guests with blowdry-styles and makeup to raise money for ONF. We’re also hoping to raise $2,000 to send autistic kids to summer camp. This fun event is currently in the works, so if you’d like to participate in any way, please contact Karli Rosario on Facebook or @allbeauty_bykarli on Instagram.
